The Brazilian Society of Animal Science is a nonprofit scientific Association. It was founded on July 26, 1951, and is known by the acronym SBZ. It originated as the end result of an idea that came about during the Animal Exhibit in the Brazilian city of Uberaba. On that occasion, several specialized liberal professionals who were conducting work on the area of Animal Science instructed their counterparts from the city of Piracicaba to promote the first Brazilian Meeting on Animal Science. The dates chosen were July 26 - 28, 1951.
In an extremely liberal demonstration, SBZ decided to accept as a member any professional who holds a graduate diploma and who has worked for over two years in any branch of Animal Science. Nowadays, SBZ brings together graduate liberal professionals, professors, researchers, extension technicians, and students involved with Animal Science.
SBZ currently has over 3,000 members, making it one of the largest scientific societies focusing on Animal Science in the whole world. Its headquarters are located in the Brazilian city of Brasilia, in the Federal District. Ever since 1973, the Society has been publishing the Brazilian Journal of Animal Science, available online to members who are up to date in paying their annual fees for the current year. Members who prefer to receive a printed version of the Journal can pay an additional fee and the Journals will be sent to the address supplied by the member.
